SHADE officers and members often have the opportunity to advocate for the needs of the Ellington School community.  Advocacy opportunities have included submitting written testimony or delivering verbal testimony to various DC Government committees, meeting with DC City Council members and attending various community meetings.  Ellington School is a community in and of itself, yet it is also a part of the larger Georgetown and Washington, DC communities.  SHADE endeavors to build and strengthen relationships and collaborations with other PTOs, HOAs, community organizations and local businesses.

SHADE welcomes your participation in our advocacy efforts which include both ongoing efforts to improve the resources Ellington School is provided and raising awareness of our outstanding and highly accomplished students.  The SHADE Advocacy subcommittee would be an ideal place to volunteer your time and efforts in support of the Ellington School community.  Ellington School students are also encouraged to participate in our advocacy efforts as they are often our most effective and impassioned advocates.  Students have, in the past, delivered important testimony and communicated with DC and DCPS leaders in support of our community’s needs.
